OTTAWA, BEECHWOOD CEMETERY, JULY 16, 2026: Sir William Stephenson, one of Canada’s most influential intelligence figures, was honoured on with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the CSIS National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood Cemetery.
The ceremony brought together representatives of Canada’s intelligence, defence and security communities, veterans, dignitaries and members of the public for a moment of remembrance and reflection.
Known internationally by his wartime codename
“Intrepid,” Stephenson played a critical role in Allied intelligence operations during the Second World War. As head of British Security Coordination in New York, he helped strengthen cooperation among Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States and contributed to the development of modern international intelligence partnerships.
