OTTAWA, OCTOBER 7, 2025: Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP), joined distinguished guests, diplomatic representatives, and community leaders in celebrating the 114th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan), held at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa on October 7, 2025.

Hosted by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), the event paid tribute to Taiwan’s enduring journey as a vibrant democracy, a global leader in innovation, and a steadfast partner in international cooperation. It reaffirmed the strong and growing friendship between Taiwan and Canada, rooted in shared values of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law.

The evening featured a dynamic program of cultural performances, ceremonial tributes, and formal remarks, celebrating Taiwan’s achievements and contributions to global peace, stability, and prosperity. Attendees represented a broad cross-section of Canada’s political, diplomatic, and cultural communities, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.

In marking this milestone occasion, Mr. Ouellette extended his congratulations to the Government and people of Taiwan, recognizing their resilience, innovation, and leadership in advancing democratic ideals across the Indo-Pacific region and around the world.

The event also provided an opportunity to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration in areas of remembrance, education, and cultural diplomacy. Such partnerships align with the MNCTP’s mission to strengthen global unity through shared heritage and commemoration—honouring those whose service and sacrifice continue to safeguard the freedoms enjoyed today.

By participating in this important national celebration, the MNCTP reaffirms its commitment to working alongside international partners like Taiwan in promoting values of peace, democracy, and cooperation, and in preserving the collective memory of those who have contributed to global security and prosperity.
