MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ON CANADA’S POLICE AND PEACE OFFICERS’ NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2025

A MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ON CANADA’S POLICE AND PEACE OFFICERS’
NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY
SEPTEMBER 28, 2025

"Today, let us honour the police and peace officers who gave their lives to protect their communities and their fellow Canadians.
"These brave individuals demonstrated selflessness and commitment to duty in the face of danger. They supported their communities during times of crisis and worked to uphold justice, adapting impressively to a changing world that constantly adds new challenges to their already demanding work.
"My thoughts and those of all Canadians are with the families, loved ones and colleagues of the officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty."
– Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada

"Alongside our gallant sailors, soldiers, airmen, and airwomen, our first responders embody the heart and soul of our people and the spirit of our nations. The often-overlooked significance of their contributions and sacrifices is a testament to their indomitable spirit—one that should resonate deeply within our national and global conscience.
"The Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP) stands in solidarity with our first responders, military, veterans, members of the intelligence community, and all who remain committed to defending the ideals and principles they so valiantly protected."
– Stéphane Ouellette, President and CEO, MNCTP
OTTAWA, TODAY: Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP), joined law enforcement officers, their families, and members of the public on Parliament Hill to commemorate Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. The ceremony paid tribute to the vital role, profound contributions, and ultimate sacrifices made by those who have dedicated their lives to serving and protecting communities across Canada.
First observed in 1978 and formally proclaimed by the Government of Canada on September 24, 1998, this day is recognized each year on the last Sunday of September—‘forevermore’—as a solemn occasion to honour the women and men who have died in the line of duty while safeguarding our homes, families, and freedoms.
This national day of remembrance invites all Canadians to pause and reflect on the extraordinary courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment of our police and peace officers. Their service stands as a powerful testament to the values that define our nation—freedom, justice, compassion, and community—and their legacy endures in the safety, peace, and unity we enjoy from coast to coast to coast.
Like Canada’s veterans and sailors, our police and peace officers embody the spirit of service and sacrifice that upholds the foundation of our democracy and strengthens our shared national identity.
