110TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

 JULY 26, 2018

“It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion.”

– President Abraham Lincoln, on the Battlefield at Gettysburg

"...the law is the thread that holds the tapestry of this country together. It is the most unifying, equalizing force that we have. It makes the rich respect the poor. It allows the powerless to challenge the powerful. And attempts to undermine the law, Mr. Speaker, regardless of motivation, are detrimental to the social order."

–    Congressmen Trey Gowdy, Representative from South—Carolina

“Along with our gallant sailors, soldiers, airmen, and airwomen, members of law enforcement and the intelligence agencies are the very heart and soul of the people and the spirit of all nations. The (predominantly overlooked) significance of their contributions and sacrifices is an attestation to their indomitable spirit that should weigh heavily on our collective consciousness.

“Indeed, the sacrifices and contributions made by our veterans and members of the military, law enforcement and intelligence communities form the very bedrock on which our democratic institutions are built, and provides us with the freedoms so many of us take for granted today.”

–    Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President & CEO, MNCTP

OTTAWA, TODAY – Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President and Chief Executive Officer, Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP) expressed his gratitude to members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and their families for their dedication and for their ultimate sacrifice in the defence of liberty.

In the summer of 1908, during the Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, Attorney General Charles Bonaparte, along with a force of Special Agents, established an experimental force of federal crime–fighters that has evolved into today’s FBI.

With over 30,000 special agents and specialized professionals, the FBI is a formidable intelligence and national security agency that combats many of the greatest threats confronting the peace and security of our global community. Along with our military, agencies like the FBI and the Central Intelligence Agency (and all other serving members of enforcement and intelligence agencies) are integral to preserving our freedom and systems of democracy.
