"At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, we gather not only to remember one life lost, but to honour the countless sacrifices made in silence and without recognition. This sacred resting place stands as a symbol of all who served and never returned—whose names may be unknown, but whose courage and devotion are eternal. On this solemn anniversary, we renew our collective promise: to remember them, to honour them, and to ensure their legacy lives on in the heart of our nation.”

OTTAWA, TODAY — A solemn and dignified ceremony was held at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Entombment of Canada’s Unknown Soldier. The event paid tribute to all those who served and sacrificed in uniform, particularly those whose names and stories remain lost to history.
Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, and Mr. Whit Fraser, attended the ceremony, laying a wreath and delivering heartfelt remarks in honour of the Unknown Soldier. They were joined by representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion, Veterans Affairs Canada, Indigenous leaders, military personnel, youth representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was established in 2000 as a powerful national symbol to honour the memory of all unidentified Canadian soldiers who died in service to their country. It has since become a sacred place of reflection and national remembrance, visited by Canadians from across the country and dignitaries from around the world.
As Canada continues to reflect on its military history and honour the legacy of service, this ceremony reaffirms the nation’s enduring commitment to remembrance, unity, and peace.
