OTTAWA, TODAY — Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President and CEO, the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP), and Executive Director of the Colonel Gardam Lifetime Achievement Award was proud to announce the second recipient of this award presented to General (retired) Walter Natynczyk, CMM MSC CD, at the 2017 CDA/CDA Institute Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence.
The first time recipient of the Colonel John Gardam Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Vice–Admiral Ron Buck, RCN (Ret’d), former Chief of the Maritime Staff, and former Vice Chief of the Defence Staff, at the 2015 CDA/CDA Institute Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence.
Mr. Ouellette created the Colonel Gardam Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize excellence in character, loyalty, and outstanding meritorious military service to Queen and country. It is intended to pay tribute to our gallant sailors, soldiers, airmen, and airwomen that are the very heart and soul of the people, and the spirit of nations. With an aim of highlighting and showcasing the remarkable achievements and continuing accomplishments of our men and women in uniform, this award stands as an official and lasting thank you to those who place their lives in danger in the defence of their country.
This award was named after Colonel John Alan Gardam, O.C., O.M.M., M.S.M., C.D. (Ret'd). Colonel Gardam spent a lifetime serving Canada and Canadian Veterans. Among his many achievements, Colonel Gardam was awarded the Order of Canada, by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada in 2012. Colonel Gardam was also named to the Honourary Board of Governors of the MNCTP.
The late Colonel John Alan Gardam, OC, OMM, MSM, CD, first enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, Regular Force, as a trooper in the Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Regiment in 1951. This Award was created to perpetuate his outstanding legacy service to Canada and to piece throughout the world entire.
