IN FRONT OF THE CSIS NATIONAL MEMORIAL

“This commemoration reminds us that freedom endures only through the courage, sacrifice, and sense of duty of those who serve. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that their stories continue to inspire unity, gratitude, and a deeper appreciation for what it means to serve Canada.”

– Stéphane Ouellette, President and CEO, MNCTP

OTTAWA, NOVEMBER 6, 2025: Mr. Stéphane Ouellette, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP), joined The Pillar Society, members of the diplomatic corps, Canadian Armed Forces, family, and friends in commemorating and remembering all those who have served Canada—at home and abroad—within the Canadian military or in civilian capacities.

The Pillar Society continues its solemn tradition at the CSIS National Memorial Cemetery, honouring the enduring legacy of service and sacrifice that defines Canada’s national identity. The ceremony paid tribute to the extraordinary courage, dedication, and selfless service of those who defended freedom, upheld peace, and advanced Canada’s humanitarian values around the world.

This annual gathering serves as a reminder of the tens of thousands of Canadians who paid the ultimate price in the First and Second World Wars, in Korea, in Afghanistan, and in over a century of international peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. It also recognizes the often-unheralded contributions of civilians, intelligence professionals, and first responders whose steadfast service continues to protect the nation’s freedom and democracy.

The CSIS National Memorial Cemetery stands as a place of honour and reflection—a sacred ground where the memory of those who served Canada lives on. It symbolizes the unity of purpose between military and civilian service, and the shared commitment to uphold the values for which generations of Canadians have sacrificed.

The Pillar Society, through its ongoing work, reaffirms its dedication to preserving this legacy of remembrance and unity—bringing together veterans, public servants, and members of the intelligence, security, and defence communities to ensure that the spirit of service continues to inspire future generations.

In alignment with this mission, the Merchant Navy Commemorative Theme Project (MNCTP) continues to champion remembrance, education, and collaboration—honouring those who have served at sea, on land, and in the air—while advancing initiatives that strengthen national unity and international understanding through shared heritage.
